What are the relations among the concepts of language, thought and culture in the field of SLA?

26 comments:

  1. The relation that exist among of language, thought and culture in the field of SLA is that the nature of cultural represents a link to social thought and the Interrelations which exist among each of these concepts. With regard to, second language acquisition is about the theory by which people acquire a new language. On the other hand, the social cultural context involves some aspects based on grammar, vocabulary, spelling. Besides these cognitive variations, is closely related to one´s personality types and communicative functions language.

In a nutshell, all of these categories and the many subcategories subsumed under them form the basis for structuring an integrated theory of SLA.

  2. The relations among the concepts of language thought and culture in the field of SLA are related to the socio-linguistic competence and pragmatics competence. That is, language acquisition involves a lot of aspects based on universal grammar. On the other hand, some linguists mention and identify different models in order to explain the human language learning capacity through some theories related to linguistics (both, first and second language acquisition).
To sum up, the concepts of language thought and culture in the field of SLA are linked to each other because of the sociolinguistic context has a relationship between language and society. In addition, pragmatics works on this field due to the fact that it is based on how the context affects the language in different situations. It is important to know that linguistics is based on the use of language in different contexts

  3. One of the special characteristics of human beings is the capacity to use language to satisfy needs and wants. We have many ways to express ideas, but the main one is the oral way. To use oral language, people have to acquire grammar structures and words that make possible communication with others. Grammar and vocabulary are important aspects in second language acquisition; on the other hand we have the culture and the social contexts, which in some situations show that what people have learned can have other ways to be interpreted. In short, when a person acquires a second language is not enough learn how to form grammar structures to speak; the person has to know the real use of the language to create felicity conditions.

  4. The relations among the concept of language, thought and culture in the acquisition of a second language: usually talking with other people is normally something that we do every day . However, the language is something very complex interact where various mental activities. The relationship between thought and language is essential in any process of personal development. So this takes place it is essential that the person relate with others, that is to say to establish social relationships.
Vygotsky declared reciprocity between the individual and the society, being defined is both historically and culturally, it is very important because the context of change and development is the main focus of attention, where we can find social influences promoting cognitive and linguistic progress and also speech is essentially a social product.

In addition, thought depends on language on the acquisition of a second language can vary, is not through imitation and reinforcement, is the social context, the cultural environment and the multiple relationships that can be formed by means of communication. The language is also the fundamental reason so that the human creates culture, if one speaks from the pragmatic and syntax part, language is related to symbols, sounds and letters where acquired meanings and rules are able to combine and to form various types of information.

  5. What's SLA: "Second Language Aquisition". According to the text is the ability to acquire a second language, taking into account different stages, from childhood to adulthood.
The above text called The hidden secrets of FLA/SLA, where give us any idea, about that there is a great relationship between language and culture thought to acquire a second language, because in the culture exist the communication of people within a society, where there is a necesity to use language to communicate with other people, everybody knows that to use the language thought of comunication is necesary the thinking when we are speaking..
According to Brown (2007). Is the age where the child is able to distinguish sounds of the environment, then they have the ability to communicate what they hear.
Is imprtantant of SLA: used to have a frame of reference and real methods to apply to everyday life where you can acquire a second language in an effective manner, where for example: Skinner tells us that the way to acquire this language is discovering the psychological patterns that affect individual and discovering learning behaviors.

  7. In the process of second language acquisition there is an internal desire of acquiring language it is a systematic procedure The process includes a babbling stage, it is very significant, The age has an important effect in learning, because is easier to learn a second language when we are in the first years of life, when we grow up it is a bit complicated to learn. Brown says as we get older, there is a loss of plasticity, which means that there is a loss in the neural pathways in the brain that help us remember things, or make connections and understandings. according to though we have to be very aware that when we learn a second language it is different from the first one, we have to forget our first language or we fall in errors, the context and mental state will contribute to fall in the error. Here, we talk about sociolinguistics according to requirements of context a person can apply correctly language. the human being has different capacities of learning. on the other hand capacity for language is worldwide and indifferent of culture there are universal rules. Finally, it is very important communication and interaction to get a better learning and interchange experiences with other people

  8. In second language learning, language plays an institutional and social role in the community. It functions as a recognized means of communication among members who speak some other language as their native tongue
Human language emerged from the social role that language plays in human interaction; for that reason the Grammar and vocabulary are important aspects in second language acquisition, however the language is also the fundamental reason so that the human creates culture the environment plays a key role in language development; Adults in the child’s linguistic environment are viewed as instrumental in language acquisition. to include, it is very important communication and interaction a better learning and share new experiences with other people

  9. The relations among the concepts of language, thought and culture in the field of SLA are very linked because the thougt is a influence in a culture and the culture is a influence for the language, and the learning of a second language acquisiton is related wih the culture and the thought of the people, for example here in Colombia for us is not important the learning of a second language acquisiton because the mentality is that our language is spanish and we thnk that we only need to know spanish because it is the language that we communicate, but in others countries their culture is learn more than one langage and they use and communicate with all language that they know.

  11. The relationship between those facts ara so close, Because. when we talk, we are making use of a part of the brain and we're thinking at the same time. Relate to the SLA; it is possible in a english native country, over there, we can be really involve woth the language and we push ourselves to talk and make use of the target language. It is not the same, when somebody is studying English in Colombia, when that person has the opportunity to study abroad. When we are abroad, we use the languages from little aspects and we use the meaningful task. When we request info about cinema or we are paying the rent. We are living and thinking in English.

  12. Speaking is a complex process and this comes from the braing. this skill is the one who can be an excellent instance about what a person thinks, likes or dislikes. Also, different form animals, humans can speak and for that reason they share experiences or ideas and for this, we create bonds and culture. When we are learning about a language, no matter if is English Spanish, French, Italian or whatever we want, we have to know that; culture is involve into it as well, so we must learn abot slangs, jargon and many expressions refering to some topics or situation. All that we have studied as grammar is going to be reflected in a social context. The Second language adquiciton is impossible in a context as our, because is too expensive contract native people and if we get native people, that no guarantee a leanring process. This is 'cause they are not teacher and the miss relevant aspects as; pedagogy, didcactics and some estrategies.

  13. the acquisition of a second languageis inseparable from the acquisition of certain models of thinking, because our higher cognitive functions do not develop in a spontaneously way, but are internalized from social interaction.
according to that we can say children learn to speak the foreign language from the environment. and depending of the environment in which they live, children will differ from one another in their early experience and this aspect is going to be reflected in the language which is learning specially in the vocabulary they know.

  15. Second language acquisition is a process that requires more than the understanding of the language, the contexts and situations could modify the way of learning of each person
The comprehension of the relationship between the concepts of language, thought and culture are important for language learners, for all people involved in language. It is important recognize the understanding people’s cognitive processes. We cannot appreciate language without talking about culture, this is the starting point to create new designs of thought; the language is not only used to analyze or understand some information, now the language assumes more roles.
Through language, in any culture people use it to reflect and express their particular culture’s values. “The thoughts of a culture which are reflected in the language and not the language which determines the thought” Sapir-Whorf hypothesis (2001)

  16. When we can refer to language, we can say that is the human ability to acquire and use systems of communication. Thought can refer to the ideas or arrangements of ideas that result from thinking and Culture refers to the knowledge, experience, beliefs, values, attitudes, meanings acquired by a group of people in the course of generations through individual and group striving. According to the definitions these topics are bound because through the language we can learn some things about another culture, so people use language like a tool of communication and also when people are acquire a second language the environment it’s important, but the thought is use when people want to speak, write, listen and read because with these abilities is necessary the use of the brain. Those topics are as a chain because if we can use one obviously is necessary use other.

  17. About the question in my opinion , the interactionist approach has paid particular attention to the nature of the interactions L2 learners typically engage in. It has focused on investigating, for example, the role of negotiation for meaning in the context of NS-NNS (Native Speaker - Non-Native Speaker) conversations , in order to see how interactions are modified by both NSs and NNSs to ensure that the input the latter receive is comprehensible. The role of feedback given to learners when they make mistakes has also been the object of attention For example I found that, Lyster & Ranta (1997) found that the most common feedback given to learners when they produce incorrect forms are recasts, i.e. a repetition of the learner's utterance minus the error; however, they also found that recasts were the kind of negative feedback learners were most likely to ignorance
Researchers adopting a socio-cultural framework, following in the footsteps of Vygotsky (1978; 1986), who believed that all learning was essentially social, have explored the way in which L2s are learned through a process of co-construction between 'experts' and 'novices'. Language learning is seen as the appropriation of a tool through the shift from inter-mental to intra-mental processes. Learners first need the help of experts in order to 'scaffold' them into the next developmental stages before they can appropriate the newly acquired knowledge. This is seen as a quintessentially social process, in which interaction plays a central role, not as a source of input, but as a shaper of development.

  18. Definitely ,They are linked together, that's why at time to talk about second language acquisition, we can't avoid this important factor :teaching a language greatly depends upon the context in which it is being taught. It means that we need recognize not just they way the students are learning, but also the way the are going to use the language they are studying. All those elements bring us to keep in mind what are the most essential points we as teachers must know .Thus , second language acquisition as the text mentions include the needs , the interests and wants from the learners .Here , it's necessary be based on the culture , language and though ,in order to be able to adapt the second language the most possible with the real life, for instance a baby learnt form repeating all the cultural background their parents taught him/her, transferring those concepts as well as they group , that's in the future could be really positive giving the learners the opportunity to use a second language even outside the four walls of the classroom.

.Hence, formal and informal language learning are acquired from the social skills and surrounded environment they are. socio-linguistic influence .Moreover,It will need to be touched upon in order to understand how context affects acquisition. So that information is going to define the importance of interaction to develop and improve communicative skills which are absolutely fundamental in the process to learn another language. As a result ,as we over viewed the principal concepts the second language acquisition will response these four reasons , what , how , why and what for.The first one ,is related with the purpose we use and we learn from culture to improve our second language , the second use , it refers to the importance of the enviroment we are and the influnce it has at time to acquire a new language , the next one , it defines the work the brain and the cultural daily experiences we live and learn and the final one it demand the use of the second language as much as possible into and outside the classroom making use of the target language thanks to the interaction we share each other , cultural characteristics and the brain process does to reach an excellent and practice way to acquire a second language.

  19. What are the relations among the concepts of language, thought and culture in the field of SLA?

These three concepts are closely related in the acquisition of a second language, we can say that one concept works on the basis of the other. Language is the medium that carries infinitely capable of everything contained in the field of human understanding, so through the acquisition of a language people can understand and learn not only the language but also the way in which people think and the culture. Understanding the language will allow someone to understand the forms of human understanding.

  20. It´s so important the relationship between: SLA-FLA, for example: culture is important for language learners, for all people involved in language. In other hand it´s important recognize the understanding people’s cognitive processes or skills which are absolutely fundamental in the process to learn another language. These skills could be: skills and surrounded environment they are. Socio-linguistic influence .Moreover, It will need to be touched upon in order to understand how context affects acquisition.
In second place; We cannot appreciate language without talking about culture, this is the starting point to create new designs of thought; the language is not only used to analyze or understand some information, now the language assumes more roles.
Finally; we can learn some things about another culture, so people use language like a tool of communication and also when people are acquire a second language the environment it’s important.

  21. The ability to speak is unique to mankind. It is how we communicate our ideas and feelings and by doing so we create a community. Mankind needs to live in a “herd” to survive. Each “herd” or group of people creates their own customs. This is why culture goes hand in hand with language, they are both intertwined. Words can have different meanings depending of the place they are said. For instances, the word biscuit in British English a biscuit is a small baked product that would be called either a "cookie" or a "cracker" in the United States however, a biscuit in the U.S is a kind of bread. This is why you cannot learn a language without culture. If second language learners only learn grammar, they might not be able to understand jokes, slang or even everyday speech when they travel abroad.

  22. During the second language acquisition process a lot of factors have to be taking into account target language and though and culture, they have a close relationship with the language acquisition even more when is a second language which is receive form a lot of different sources that also give you some cultural tips and when you receive this new knowledge in a different way and language your mental process have a new spectate about how the target topic it also makes your vocabulary and cultural background enriched, also that a language cannot be though without context because what give real meaning to language is how people use it to communicate their own thought

  23. the relationship between language and learning a second language is transverse to both, because at first we use our mother tongue as a springboard to the second until we reached advanced processes of thinking in a second language, having all grammar concepts clear on the first language and meet all its grammatical function will be easier the unconscious comparison process that we usually do with the second.language
On the other hand the language is the key of communication and if we learn it but we can not communicate in a second language is a dead knowledge

  24. The relations among the concepts of language, thought and culture in the field of SLA, These are much linked because the thought is a influence in a culture, also acquisition a language is crucial to consider the effect of age on the process of learning because age playing is the major factor in a learner’s success in learning.

Moreover, all human have the capacity to use language to express messages or ideas using almost oral language, nowadays people have to acquire grammar structures and words that are really important aspects in second language acquisition, in that order we have the culture and the social contexts, are related to the socio-linguistic competence and pragmatics than involves the context in relation between language and society and how people can understand and learn a language.

Why→ Because is important know that culture involve slangs, jargon and many expressions refering to some topics or situation. Usually people just learn a second language and they focus only on grammar, but we can't ignore the importance of our ideas and way to communicate in a foreign culture.
What for→ To do possible a extension where any person (Not just a native) can communicate his culture to others in a good use of the second language.

  26. WHAT: The relationship between those facts ara so close in a field called "Ethnolinguistics" where it studies and analyze how people related their language with thoughts and a culture.

HOW: it is possible in a english native country, over there, we can be really involve with the language and we push ourselves to talk and make use of the target language.

WHY: Because. when we talk, we are making use of a part of the brain and we're thinking at the same time. And if we do taht in other context we have to know new cultures. When we are abroad, we use the languages from little aspects and we use the meaningful task.
