ReplyDeleteDear teacher
ReplyDeleteEverything that I learned in the applied linguistics2 is that multiple intelligences is the study of how student acquire language, besides how multiple sensory view of a language is required, the theory of languages, due to the context it provides for giving the messages and purpose, where students learn quickly when they use their special ability in the language and learning. On the other hand, evaluation focuses on grades and may reflect classroom components, also making the overall judgment about one´s work or whole school´s work and assessment is focuses on learning, teaching and outcomes, it provides information for improving learning and teaching. Does mean that assessment is the informs faculty how well students are learning.
As for ESP, establish a context which will help us to see how ESP at the present time relates and focuses on the languages you need.
Neuro linguistics is the study of neural mechanisms in the human brain that control comprehension, production and acquisition of language.

ReplyDelete1) I have learnt that in e-learning the teacher mostly has a passive role however in b-learning the teacher is very active. In addition, Neurolinguistics is how the brain and the human language and communication develop during evolution and how they develop in children and adults. Its aspects are phonology, grammar, lexical semantics, reading and writing, and multilingualism. Lastly, there are nine multiple intelligence. They are Musical–rhythmic and harmonic, Visual–spatial, Verbal–linguistic, Logical–mathematical, Bodily–kinesthetic, Interpersonal, Intrapersonal, Naturalistic, and Existential.

1. What have you learnt until this moment? (Tell me at least 5 different things, each plot)
ReplyDeleteThere are different things that I learn in this class for example:
What is neurolinguistics: is important because: the brain goes develop according to the learning process, it also deals with the language learning process.
Multiple intelligences: there are different kinds of multiple intelligences; for example:
interpersonal, interpersonal, musical, visual, logical mathematical, Bodily–kinesthetic, naturalistic and existential.
-task based: focuses on the use of authentic language and on asking students to do meaningful tasks using the target language.
-communicative approach: is when, teacher create a link with his students and create an environment where the students can to give their opinion or say their ideas.
2) How could be a class for the following population? (Choose 2, and tell me; aims, activities and rubric)
a- Her name is Latika, She´s from Africa, She´s 36, She´s a business woman who is studying at your institute; she needs to learn about international trades.
Objectives: improve her business vocabulary using the ESP and choose a topic where she use constantly in her job
Activity: first: she should to create a conversation using business vocabulary
With her partners, after that, they must to do a performance using the vocabulary
Rubric: my evaluation would be, give them a business comic. They must to recognize the key words and explain them. (Grade of each activity, will be: conversation 2.0, performance: 2.0, comic: 1.0)
d- Her name is Lucia, She's 17, she’s shy, she does not speak too much, she's at school)

Activity: create groups of four people, after that, they must to read a document (environmental care). Finally they must Share ideas about it, and do a summary of the main characteristics of the features.
Rubric: each one must to create a poster about the topic and explain it in front of class. (Grade of each activity, will be: summary: 2.5, poster: 2.5)
1. I have learn Gardner and his theory of multiple Intelligences, how identify the difference intelligences in my students provide them the best way to acquire the knowledge
ReplyDelete* how use the communicative approach based on the idea that each learning process is different and is only significative experience if we have a real communication situations, trought them the students going to contrast what they have learn with their real life, as teacher when going to use this kind of approach will take into account that the contents in class answer for the needs to the real context of the students
* How use Task approach in a class and create effective lesson plans which use the target language planning the warming up, the introduction or presentation of a subject, pre task, task and evaluation and assessment of each task
* ESP: and how of English teacher can take advantage of English for Specific Purpose using the language as a tool to teach a lot of personal and social skills in a specific area of the knowledge (not only grammar)
* I have remembered the difference between evaluation as quantitative points, activities and rubric and assessment as a whole qualitative process, recognizing of each task need to be evaluated in both sides
2. (population c-d) TOPIC: the values
• Linguistic Content: calificatives adjectives
• Aim: To recognize the differences between the students and they realized about it
• Methodology: Warming up: tingo tingo tango ( the student going to say a value as his own feature)
• Introduction: the teacher going to introduce the topic using sentences where the calificatives adjectives will be explained
• Task: in couples the students going to make a description of his partner using these adjectives and explaining why he/she is different to him / to her
• Evaluation: * knowledge of values (1)
• * use of the adjectives to make a description (2)
• * pronunciation (1)
• * correct way to write the adjectives: (1)
• Assesment: the students will be asses in order to they recognize the difference of everybody and argue their ideas
3. (POPULATION C)
* TOPIC: my daily routine
* AIM: To recognize how to use the simple present tense in my daily routine
METHODOLOGY: Warming up : the teacher present a video with a simple daily routine and the students take notes about what verbs are used
INTROUDUCTION: the teacher explains the topic and how can we use this tense when we are going to talk about our day
TASK: Each student write in the notebook their daily routine using this tense
EVALUATION: * Use of the grammar rules (2)
• Writing (1)
• Creativity (2)
ASSESMENT: the students will be asses according his own production and the creativity to make it
*In this class i learned
ReplyDelete1) about the importance of the ESP in the education, because it permit not only learn the grammar, also other subjects that can be ussefull
2)about the neurolinguistic because we need to learn the process of how we acquire the language
3)the multiple intelligence, is usefull in our job as teachers because we need to know that not all the students have the same process of learning and they need need other strategies for develop it.
4)the task based. Because we as teachers need to use the target language all time for develop the learning and also the teaching.
5)the applied linguistic help us to express in presentation and develop our foreign language.
*I select oscar and lucia
Oscar aims: permit that oscar be able to act in public using the music and the plays, it help him to be more confortable of himself and be able to express in another way.
Oscar activities: oscar must to learn singing so we cann start with a little karaoke in wich he feel combortable and then start with the singing class, of course carry him to a play and then teach him how act.
Oscar rubric: the karaoke can help oscar to understand the songs easier and feel confortable, i evaluate the process in which he develop his speaking

ReplyDelete• I had learnt hoe the theory of multiple intelligences helps me as teacher to understand the students learning process in the classroom.
• Another important topic was esp. which provides teachers the proper tools to teach an specific topic depending of the specific needs for the learner example English for tourism, medical professionals etc.
• Assessment is an interactive process between students and faculty that informs faculty how well their students are learning what they are teaching and provides information for improving learning and teaching.
• Evaluation is the systematic process which is focused on grades, generally at the end of the process.
• Neuro linguistics is the study of the neural mechanisms in the human brain that control the comprehension, production, and acquisition of language. It means neuro linguistics explain how is the learning process in each.

ANSWERS:
1.I have learned issues related to Multiple Intelligences, E.S.P, Communicative Approach.
Multiple Intelligences. According to Gardner, Intelligence is defined as a way to solve problems. Multiple Intelligences give us (teachers) some tools to Set pedagogic strategies to identify and support the strengths and weaknesses of our students. Some of them are: Linguistic Intelligence, interpersonal intelligence, Naturalist intelligence, musical intelligence and so on.
Linguistic Intelligence: It is used by writers, poets, etc.
Interpersonal Intelligence: It permits us to understand other people. This is used by teachers.
Naturalist Intelligence: It is used when observing nature.
Musical Intelligence: It is used by singers, compositors.
E.S.P: (English for Specific Purposes) It is a tool designed to identify the learners´ needs. On the other hand, E.S.P is a methodology to get suitable resources to guide the process of learning of our students. That is, it gives us some models learning to support the learners´ needs.
Communicative Approach is an approach to language learning and is related to the meaning and functions to the use of learning.
2. a- Her name is Latika, She´s from Africa, She´s 36, She´s a business woman who is studying at your institute, she needs to learn about international trades. (aims, activities and rubric).
Goals.
a) Student will learn new vocabulary a new grammar related to Businesses or vocabulary for jobs. These books contains some errors related to grammar, spelling and structures of sentences. The main goal is to know and identify the Grammar errors and polish the vocabulary and spelling of students .
b) Students will learn English for International Meetings through English books designed to businesses.
So far, I have learnt several aspects:
ReplyDelete1 .Multiple intelligences: This tool is so useful at the moment of teaching. Because, it makes us, understand; why my students are not leaning, which my students’ weaknesses and how to help them. If a student likes so much reading; the appropriated way to teach him is through it. The main aim of this theory is; to find out new tools to they really learn.
2 .Guides: In this class, I have developed some guides, which contain topics (different from the typical grammar rules. Business, science or whatever topic) in English, this is so well, because it prepare us for different fields into English language acquisition.
3 .Task Approach: this methodology was unknown by me. This permits; students can learn English through meaningful tasks. In short words, a student can learn through; presentations, buying something in a coffee or just asking something in store for.
4 .Communicative approach: this is so important and a great way to teach. The learning process is through real life experiences, this process would be better outside the classroom and an interaction English in other places.
5. Neuro-linguistics: in this class, I understood the importance of this mechanism. Besides, neuro-linguistics is not just for English. It allows to student express themselves in an effective way through the hardest skill, Speaking.
CASES:
Oscar and Lucia.
Oscar:
The main aim is to set up a nice relationship and discover; what his hobbies are. When teacher knows his hobbies, he can use them as an advantage. If student do not like those activities, as teacher I have to find a new way to him. I can take him to a restaurant (Where I know English is spoken) and over there to order something to eat. DeleteAim:To learn comparatives and superlatives,To encourage the student to show her likes and dislikes using life experiences
To provide a correct explanation about comparatives and superlatives in her daily life.
Warming up: She is going to writte expressing her liskes and dislikes and the sequence to the best one to the worst one through a mental map
I am going to introduce the topic through an audio recording also she is going to search in some books what are the unkonwn words and how the words are used in the text
At the beginning of the activity she will make cartoon about her idol explain why she likes him/her too much.
Student will make a brief composition about comparatives of superlatives of her interests and complete some text through a reading comprehension of text completion.2.0
Student will send a short audi recording showing the most common colombian sentences we use with superlatives and comparatives 10
Student will create a poster explain a channel and its advantages and disadvatanges.20

ReplyDeleteI have learnt about how multiple intelligences have influence in the ways that teachers guide students in their learning process. The forms to learn cannot be generalized, for that reason teachers have to adapt interesting activities based on the abilities of every student.
ReplyDeleteAnother important topic in the class was Neurolinguistics, I learnt that this science study the mental process about language acquirement. As teachers we have to be attentive to discover the problems that students may have in their brains, and how this problems affect their linguistic abilities.
Task based is an approach where student do meaningful tasks to learn a language. These tasks should be based on situations that are related with the real life. Using TBLL we can improve the fluency and the communication competence of students, besides they can feel more comfortable with the knowledge that they acquire.
Communicative language learning is based on communicative situations using target language. I would be interested to use this approach because is a process that permits identify errors in communication process and correct them immediately, in this way, the student can get meaningful learning and change their concepts.
English for Specific Purposes. This approach uses the professional context of a learner to adapt the methodologies to teach English language. When we are teaching English for a specific group, we have to analyze what are their needs, what they want to learn, in other words, the most useful topics and abilities they need to develop to foster their success.
Her name is Lucia, She's 17, She's shy, She does not speak too much, she's at school)
Aim.
Ask and answer correctly about aspects of my life.
Activities.
- Every student makes a self-introduce. The teacher does it too. (Warm up)
- Every student will make a question to other, asking about aspects of his/her life. (Interview)
Assessment.
Amount of information provided in the warm up. (1)
Vocabulary used to answer question. (1.5)
Correct grammar to report an answer. (1.5)
Number of written responses. (1)
1. What have you learnt until this moment?
ReplyDeleteIn applied linguistics 2, I learn the importance of multiple intelligences because teachers in some cases don’t have the knowledge, don’t know who they can use that intelligences, don’t know the intelligence modalities as musical, spatial, verbal, logical, bodily, interpersonal, intrapersonal, naturalistic and existential. Also I learn what is neurolinguistics? It’s important knows that is the study of the neural mechanisms in the human brain that control the comprehension, production, and acquisition of language. It’s fascinating learn different topics other is English for specific purpose in that you can teach things according with the specific needs of the learners, in it you work with the necessities of your students. Other important point is the use of English in class, sometime us like students don’t see the necessity of use English in all moment in class, but is important use that and learn more day after day.
2. How could be a class for the following population? (choose 2, and tell me; aims, activities and rubric)
CASE N 1 and 2
c- His name is Oscar, He's 16 years old, He's a tenth grager, He speaks english but He does not like singing neither acting.
d- Her name is Lucia, She's 17, she’s shy, she does not speak too much, and she’s at school)
TOPIC: present simple
WARM UP:
In the first activity the student will be play with some twisters and the idea is speak and learn new vocabulary
NEW KNOWLEDGE: 20 mint. – 20 mint.
• For this activity, students take on the role of an animal. Students choose one animal they want to be. The students draw a picture of the animal and do sentences about the animal's habits using the present simple. After that, they pair up and read their sentences to their partner.
• Students work in pairs and ask each other questions about their daily routine in this present simple teaching activity. They write their partner's answers down on a worksheet and when they have finished, both students compare their lifestyles and look for similarities and differences.
CONTROL PRACTICE:
The idea of these activities is practice our vocabulary, the use of English and work in groups, if we work in groups we can learn more and the idea is socialize.
1.Well Until This Moment I been learning different Technical related with all academics topics in Applied Linguist II, Neurolinguistc For Example was an excellent topic because I learned A Lot, Neurolinguistic is The interdisciplinary study of language processing in the brain, with an emphasis on the processing of spoken language when certain areas of the brain are damaged.
ReplyDeleteAlso I learned through a crossword The Importance of Multiple Intelligence each one of them, I Start with Visual-Spatial - think in terms of physical space, as do architects and sailors. Bodily-kinesthetic - use the body effectively, like a dancer or a surgeon. Keen sense of body awareness.
Musical - show sensitivity to rhythm and sound. They love music, but they are also sensitive to sounds in their environments. Also Interpersonal - understanding, interacting with others. These students learn through interaction. Intrapersonal - understanding one's own interests, goals. These learners tend to shy away from others. For we as a teachers is so important the Linguistic - intelligence because using words effectively. These learners have highly developed auditory skills and often think in words. Also was of a human interest the Logical -Mathematical - reasoning, calculating. Think conceptually, abstractly and are able to see and explore patterns and relationships. At the time when we will be teaching is so important detect these Intelligences for our students and try to do that they exploit their skills.
Also I Learned about ESP English for specific Purposes that is so important for all professionals and all kind of careers Students approach the study of English through a field that is already known and relevant to them. This means that they are able to use what they learn in the ESP classroom right away in their work and studies so we as a teachers that already has experience in teaching English as a Second Language (ESL), can exploit her background in language teaching. She should recognize the ways in which her teaching skills can be adapted for the teaching of English for Specific Purposes. Moreover, she will need to look for content specialists for help in designing appropriate lessons in the subject matter field she is teaching.
2. c- His name is Oscar, He's 16 years old, He's a tenth grager, He speaks english but He does not like singing neither acting.
ReplyDeleteWarming Up: I start talking with him about his favorite music and what is his favorite singer, and then we are going to listening two songs about the singer or band depends on his preferences. Time 10. Minutes.
New Knowledge: before of this they have to sing for me and prepare I want that he start talking About something that he hate a lot and make that start feeling angry, when he feel angry he can speaking and singing strong. The angry is a feeling that angry, removes shyness, an angry person says and does things that otherwise would not do and is able to speak more fluently.
So exercise is recommended that the angry and generate that
angry feeling when you're in an embarrassing situation or put you nervous, this will make you forget about your shyness and what others think and then .and now I feel the anger inside you will be able to speak and easily speak fluently. And in this way he can exploit his feelings d- Her name is Lucia, She's 17, She's shy, She does not speak too much, she's at school) as Lucia and oscar have similar cases I Choose the same class for bouth, then of the warming up before of this they have to sing for me and prepare I want that he start talking About something that he hate a lot and make that start feeling angry, when he feel angry he can speaking and singing strong. The angry is a feeling that angry, removes shyness, an angry person says and does things that otherwise would not do and is able to speak more fluently.

angry feeling when you're in an embarrassing situation or put you nervous, this will make you forget about your shyness and what others think and then .and now I feel the anger inside you will be able to speak and easily speak fluently. And in this way he can exploit his feelings then of this they have to organize a short concert performing their favorite singer and make a show each one. 45. Minutes.
Control practice here we learned and I would explain why I make this exercise and how they feeling performing for me, maybe is a low esteem and they have to overcome their fears. 15.
Evaluation. I Made a rubric just with a self evaluation, because they have to try to leave shame. And I just a self-evaluation and peer -evaluation 10. Minutes.
For the next class I want to they preparet a short play about a free topic. And they have to present me in the next warming up.
1) I have learnt that Task based is an approach that focuses on the learning process through tasks and communicative approach is based in the learning language when we are involve in a real communication. Other thing that I have learnt is Multiple Intelligences that is when a person learns through different ways and how it’s divided in eight abilities. The most interesting topic has been Neurolinguistics; it’s a field of linguistics that studies the mechanisms of the brain and how it controls the comprehension, production and acquisition of any language. And the last one topic learnt is ESP (English for specific purposes), that how his name says: It focuses in a specific area, for example: English for business, English for medicals, etc.

1. What have I learned until this moment?
ReplyDeleteI have learnt some basic and general things about the topics we have studied, so I learnt about multiple intelligences theory, what it is, which are the eight intelligences, how we can use it in our teaching practice, also that it is a useful theory that takes into account students diversity and learning styles, this theory does not have the conception that all students learn in the same way, so it makes us, as teachers, reflect about how we develop our classes and what kind of activities we should use depending on our students’ necessities.
Another aspect we have seen during classes is neurolinguistics that is the study of how our brain works while we are learning a language an important aspect that has implications in students’ acquisition of a foreign language, so we have to take it into account as future English teachers.
Our last topic of the semester was ESP (English for specific purposes) that is a learner-centered approach to teaching English, which focuses on developing communicative competence in a specific discipline, its purpose is to meet students’ specific needs and this kind of teaching is an important information that we, as teachers, should know and recognize, because we can apply it depending on the context we are teaching English.

-Student will be able to talk about places s/he has been
- To foster students speaking skill
Warm up: students will try to pronounce a tongue twister
New knowledge: Teacher will hand out to students some stories about people who have travel and they have to identify the tense used.
Until this moment, I have learnt about these topics:
ReplyDeleteMultiple intelligences:is an important issue identified by Howard Gardner, this theory holds that everyone have different kinds of intelligences, some of them are: logical mathematical intelligence, interpersonal intelligence intrapersonal intelligence.
English for specific purposes: is an approach to teach English, focusing communication in a specific discipline.
Neurolinguistics: is the study of the brain mechanisms in language, its comprehension and acquisition.
The influence of society in second language learning: how people are influenced by their context when they are learning a language; there are some issues to take into account: the context could give them the fundamental tools or difficult their process, it is important to know the learner's skills to implement the appropiate activities; the learning climate should be focused in how to do it a good experience making it easier to the learners.
Case one.
Her name is Lucia, She's 17, She's shy, She does not speak too much, she's at school
Topic: present simple
Aims: to improve the student´s development in areas as speaking
increase her confidence and develop throught games.
Activities are: the student has search for a song that contents in its structure present simple, a song of her choice.
. Then she is going to sing that song following the lyrics and identifying the present simple tense.
Task: Lucia is going to write a short song using present simple tense
Rubric: She with their partners have to create a role play about any activity of daily life using present simple.
Case two
His name is Oscar, He's 16 years old, He's a tenth grager, He speaks english but He does not like singing neither acting.

past simple
Oscar is going to find a song of his choice based on past simple.
Oscar should sing that song and identify the verbs in past.
Rubric: write that words and create a story, then represent that story in a rol play.

APPLIED LINGUISTICS II
1) What have you learnt until this moment? ( tell me at least 5 different things, each plot )
*Neurolinguistics: It studies the relation of the language and communication to different aspects of brain function. It tries to explore how the brain understands and produces language and communication. It involves physcholinguictics and theoretical linguistics and It requires acquisition, comprehension and production.
*Multiple intelligences: Howard Gardner of Harvard has identified seven distinct intelligences. This theory has emerged from recent cognitive research. So, He recognizes that. Students learn in ways that are identifiably distinctive. Visual –spatial (in terms of physical space), Bodily-kinesthetic (use the body effectively), Musical (show sensitivity to rhythm and sound) linguistic (It refers to use of the words effectively) intrapersonal (the way we are able to understand our own goals and interests) and interpersonal (understanding, interacting with others)
*The competences we can to encourage and to use in order to comply the common European framework requirements. I remember you mention it in French. First, we can know and say what we know , without forgetting the attitudes and emotions and social skills ,Then, how to do , and finally how to learn.
*The importance of the role of the students into the classroom: The student must be the central part of the learning-teaching process .Because we take into account what are their need, wants and interest to create a meaningful class , For that reason the ESL explains how the teacher must be a facilitator who provides to the student the resources and material to motivate them to work effectively.
*Communicative and Task-based approach usage: Those approaches are really useful because thanks to them It easier . The communicative approach is based on a meaningful communication. It refers to some features like: Primacy of oral work, acquired grammar rules in use, considered the error as a natural part of learning, It works in the correct pronunciation, among others. While the task based approach stablishes a work based on meaning task , Some of the most important characteristics are :use of authentic language and on asking students to do meaningful tasks using the target language, learning from the process
It gives the students more autonomy, consideration in task design, It includes stages (pre-task, task, planning, report, analysis and practice), pre-task (activity an introduction to topic), task cycle (Task, Planning and Report) and Language Focus and Feedback and among others
2)How could be a class for the following population? (choose 2, and tell me; aims, activities and rubric)
d- Her name is Lucia, She's 17, She's shy, She does not speak too much, she's at school)
Aim:To learn comparatives and superlatives,To encourage the student to show her likes and dislikes using life experiences

ReplyDeleteActivities: student will make some compositions to identify the spelling, grammar and errors. This activity will be make to improve the way of writing very well in English, specialli English for businesses.
ReplyDeleteAssessment: Student will make a short composition. At the end, teacher will make a feedback to identify the weaknesses and strengths od student. That is, teacher and students analizes the spelling, grammar and structures made by student to continue learning and improving.
Case two
ReplyDeleteHis name is Gustavo, He is 65 years old, He's a lawyer, He has been to several countries however He does not speak English.( He's studying at Colombo,)

Make some readings about law in English.
Evaluation:
Complete some workshops according to the vocabulary learned.
Make role plays in which he has to speak fluently.
Listening some situation and identify what the conversation is about.
1) What have you learnt until this moment?
ReplyDeleteI have learnt up to this moment some general topics and different items about applied linguistics as, multiple intelligences theory, it has eight intelligences where each one to promote and foster human capacity and skills in order to solve different situations in their daily life, also they will be able to create infinity knowledge, even we use it in different contexts does not matter the population, social stratum, place, all human have skillfulness unpublished to help themselves in multiples kinds of experiments. Therefore it tries to help teachers to recognize the importance about student´s learning and how teachers distinguish support to them. Even I know is impossible to identify student´s intelligence, but I consider that they can create strategies, methodologies, system in order to make a useful class by students, with the idea that students have not superficial knowledge,
Another aspect that I consider relevance is Neurolinguistics: is the study of how language is represented in the human and the neurological system regulates and controls the function of our bodies, from my point of view, I consider multiples intelligences and Neurolinguistics are closely linked because both share the same body langue and student´s learning acquire through it
2. c- His name is Oscar, He's 16 years old, He's a tenth grader, He speaks English but He does not like singing neither acting.
Topic: Present Simple tense
